She
walked back to her room, wishing it had been 10 year olds
instead. But instead, she was now stuck with a bunch of
immature, snot-nosed celebrities for neighbors. This was going
to be the longest week of her life…
Scott looked up when she reentered the room.
"Did you already make enemies with our neighbors?"
he teased.
"You actually noticed I had left?" Agnes asked in
surprise.
Scott faked a pout.
"You make me sound like the neglectful boyfriend! Of
course I did! Come here." He waved her over to the table
and pulled her onto his lap. "So how many kids are in
that suite?" he asked as he began to massage her
shoulders.
Agnes let out a little laugh.
"Seven overgrown kids who unfortunately happen to be
celebrity pop stars." Her face clouded over just thinking
about Paddy's insults.
"What's wrong?" Scott asked, sensing her tension as
he continued kneading the muscles in her shoulders and back.
"You seem… disturbed. They didn't give you a hard
time, did they?"
'Only the bleached blonde spoiled brat who had the nerve to
pass judgment on me' Agnes was tempted to say, but she
refrained from burdening Scott with any unnecessary worries.
He had enough to deal with. She could handle Paddy on her own.
All she had to do was make sure she avoided him at all
possible costs. Otherwise, another confrontation like the one
they just had would end up with him not living to see his 25st
birthday.
"Of course not" Agnes lied trying to lighten up. She
refused to let Paddy put a damper on the rest of her night.
They were okay… just the red one seemed a bit arrogant.
Scott shook his head in disgust.
"It bugs the hell out of me that brats like them are
making an enormous amount of money without having to work for
it. All they do is look pretty and the money keeps on rolling
in. Meanwhile, I had to work my ass off to get where I am
today… Where is the justice in society?"
Agnes sighed and leaned back against his chest.
"If it's any consolation, maybe they'll lose their hair
real soon. Then they'll be nobodies again. I'd love to see
them try and make a living in the real world, especially with
nothing but a high school education, if they had one of
course."
Scott chuckled as he rubbed her arms affectionately.
"Where has all this animosity suddenly come from? I
thought you liked those cheesy boy bands. You even went to one
of their concerts last year, didn't you?"
"Yes, but the Kellys are far from being a boyband. And I
was in the Backstreet Boys concert, not theirs" Agnes
corrected him. "And I only went because Christina won the
tickets and she needed her big cousin to drive her. Besides,
there's nothing wrong with the music. It's the jerks behind
the music that are the bad apples."
"Alright. Something definitely happened. What is
it?"
"Nothing Scott. Really. I don't want to talk about this
anymore. They're not worth it."
"Shhh… listen, Scott whispered as he kissed her
neck. It's suddenly quiet again. Maybe you scared them
away."
"Maybe" Agnes echoed distantly, finally starting to
relax under his touch.
"You should get back to work-and take advantage of this
quiet time."
Scott's hands moved slowly back up her arms and he slid his
fingers underneath the straps of her camisole, gently slipping
them down.
"I think I'd rather take a break" he murmured,
trailing kisses across her bare shoulders.
"So let's take a walk on the beach then" Agnes
suggested quickly, hopping off his lap as she fixed her
straps. "It's a beautiful night."
Scott gently grabbed her around the waist and pulled her back
into him. "No, you are beautiful" he corrected,
tracing her jaw-line with his finger, down her neck and across
her shoulders where he slipped off her straps once again.
Before she could protest, his lips met hers in a feather-light
kiss which soon grew much deeper.
"What are you doing?" she asked breathlessly.
"I want to make love to you" he replied between
kisses.
Agnes pulled away and regarded him sternly. She had found
herself in this situation numerous times in the past: Scott
persistently trying to make every attempt to change her mind
concerning her beliefs about sex. She had been honest with him
from the start of their relationship, and she knew he
respected her decision… yet sometimes he just liked to
check to see if she had changed her mind yet.
"Uh-oh, what's that look for?" he joked.
"You know."
"Well, can you blame a guy for trying?" he asked,
smiling sheepishly.
"It just seems you've been trying an awful lot
lately" Agnes admitted quietly, not wanting to start an
argument but needing to get it off her chest.
Scott reached out and took her hand, his expression softening.
"You know I respect you and would never pressure you into
anything."
"I know… it just feels like… you're mocking
me sometimes."
He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Of course I'm not. I just like to check once in a while
to see if you've changed your mind."
"You'll be the first to know when I do."
"I should hope so" he said, eyes twinkling as he
smiled.
Agnes gave him a soft kiss and then tugged on his hand again.
"Come on. Let's go for that walk."
But Scott resisted.
"Actually… I should finish this up for tomorrow. I
still don't feel prepared for the meeting."
"Sure."
Her face fell as she released his hand and returned back to
the couch. Picking up her book, she settled down to continue
reading, but couldn't ignore the nagging feeling in the back
of her mind. Something was definitely wrong in their
relationship. She could deny it all she liked, but it was
there. As she glanced over and watched Scott's handsome face
as he sat there, hard at work, she began to wonder if she
herself could possibly be the cause of that problem…
"It's called manners, Paddy!" Jimmy reprimanded his
young brother. "You really have to stop losing your
temper like that!!!"
"But she was rude to me!" Paddy protested, still
fuming over his encounter with the girl next door.
"So you snapped back at her!?!? I can just see the
headlines now: Girls you know you better watch out. Arrogance
is what Paddy Kelly is comming."
Joey snickered from over on the sidelines, and they both
flashed him a look of death. This was no laughing matter.
"Screw the publicity, Jimmy! That's all you're ever
concerned about! I'm sick of being polite all the time and
letting everyone walk all over me!!"
"It's part of the business, Pad! Next time, you better
think before you speak. I don't want to have to have this talk
with you again!"
Paddy grumbled something in response, but then turned away and
plopped down on the couch, picking up the remote.
Maite had been quietly conversing with Johnny in a huddle by
the door. He took advantage of the break in Paddy and Jimmy's
argument and cleared his throat to be recognized.
"Boys, our search is over" he announced proudly.
Jimmy looked at him in confusion while Paddy just ignored him
as he sat sulking in front of the TV.
Johnny pointed to the door.
"We have officially chosen Agnes as Paddy's
conquest."
That caught Paddy's attention real quickly. His head snapped
around to see Maite grinning evilly at him.
"No way!"
"The deal was that they got to choose the girl,
Paddy" Joey reminded him.
"Screw the bet. I'm out then. Just take the lousy
money."
"It's 500 bucks, Paddy" Maite tried to persuade him.
"Just think of all the peroxide you can buy with that.
Are you sure you wanna give it up without a fight?"
"I'm not wasting my vacation kissing up to someone like
her-even if it is for 500 bucks. It's not worth the
aggravation. Besides, it's not fair you chose her after we
started out on bad terms. The playing field had to start out
neutral."
Maite looked at Johnny and Joey and feigned confusion.
"Did we agree on that?"
They shook their heads in amusement.
Paddy looked to Jimmy in exasperation.
"Jimmy? A little help here, please?" he begged.
Jimmy let out a little chuckle.
"Sorry. You're on your own, buddy. I told you I refuse to
take part in such foolish games."
"A bet is not a foolish game, Jimmy" Joey corrected
him. "It's an interesting way to make a little extra
cash."
"Yeah, but people can get hurt in the process."
Maite waved a hand dismissively.
"You've seen too many movies, Daddy." she plopped
down next to Paddy on the couch, slinging an arm around his
shoulder. "So what's it gonna be, little boy? Are you in
or out?"
Paddy hated the thought of losing such a large chunk of his
hard-earned money, but he hated even more to be proved wrong
by his siblings. He had an image to uphold and was too proud
to ever surrender or admit to being wrong.
"But she also has a boyfriend" he complained.
"That's two strikes against me!"
"We're talking about 500 bucks, Pad! You didn't think
this was going to be easy, did you!?" Maite smiled.
"And why are you even worrying?" Johnny added in a
mocking tone. "Because, according to you, it should be no
sweat because-and I quote-you're a lady killer, a don Juan,
God's gift to women-"
"Enough" Paddy cut him off sourly. "I get the
point."
"You dug yourself into this hole" Johnny told him
smugly. "Either just admit you're not 'all that' or prove
us wrong."
"Fine, I'll do it" Paddy announced reluctantly
without any further hesitation. "But you better lay out
the rules right here and now. Jimmy! he yelled across the
room. Get over here! We need a witness!"
Jimmy and Joey clustered around the rest of the guys on the
couch.
"OK. Listen up" Maite announced. "If she
doesn't fall for you by the time we leave here next Friday
night, Johnny and I are $250 richer and you're $500 poorer.
There are no rules. Just that it has to be legit-no bribing
her into acting or pretending. And we have to have
proof-preferably a kiss in public would be ideal." se
shrugged her shoulders and grinned evilly at her brother.
"That's all, Paddy. It's pretty simple actually."
"Pretty simple my ass" Paddy grumbled under his
breath.
"And you guys can't try and change her mind either"
Jimmy warned them "inventing a rule of his own. Like you
can't make Paddy look bad in front of her or spread nasty
rumors about him."
"Hey, there are plenty of rumors floating around
already" Johnny laughed. "He doesn't need our help.
Besides, why else would Agnes have been so cold to him? She
probably heard the one about his steroid addiction."
"Or the 14 year old girl he got pregnant."
"Or that he's a vampire by night who sold his soul for
eternal life."
Paddy glared at his siblings who were obviously enjoying
making a mockery of him. Let them laugh all they wanted, but
in the end when he collected that money, he'd be the one
having the last laugh. Agnes may be his toughest conquest yet,
but he'd accept the challenge like a man because the thrill of
victory over his brothers and also over Agnes would be well
worth the fight. He bravely held out his hand, smiling smugly,
and Johnny and Maite both shook it, finalizing the deal.
Joey rubbed his hands together excitedly.
"Let the games begin."
The next morning, Agnes awoke to an empty suite. The night
before, Scott had reminded her that he'd be leaving early for
his meeting, but he promised he'd be back in time for dinner
and then dancing afterwards. Agnes knew better than to hold
him to his word.
After ordering up a light breakfast from room service, she
decided to head down to the beach for a few hours while the
heat was still bearable. Stepping outside into the sunlight,
she squinted even from behind her dark glasses. It was going
to be one hot, insufferable day.
Speaking of insufferable, reminders of last night's encounters
with the infamous Paddy Kelly came to mind. Luckily, she
hadn't run into any of them on her way out this morning, and
she hoped to avoid any further contact for as long as
possible. His attitude still bugged the hell out of her the
more she thought about it. Who did that kid think he was? And
what right did he have to talk down to her like that? He had
absolutely no respect for women, yet the naive little
teenyboppers continued to fawn all over him, treating him as
nothing less than a god. If they only knew… but would
they even care? Probably not, as long as he continued to charm
them with his smile. Agnes felt sick to her stomach just
thinking about it.
Their hotel was right on the beach, so Agnes didn't have very
far to walk. She took off her flip flops and plodded through
the sand with her rental chair, vowing not to waste another
thought on that arrogant boy. And he was just a boy. How old
was he now? 20?
Shaking her head in disgust, she settled on a spot a safe
distance from the water, and unpacked her towel, sunscreen and
book. Settling onto the chair, she began the dreaded sunscreen
ritual. Face first, nose, ears, neck, arms, stomach and legs.
Every inch had to be meticulously covered. She hated her fair
skin, because it meant remaining stark white even in the
middle of summer when everyone else around her was sporting
healthy looking golden tans.
She had been so caught up in her own thoughts that she hadn't
noticed that Paddy and the guys arrived at the beach soon
after she did. They had waited patiently out of sight in the
hotel lobby for Agnes to come downstairs and then had followed
her to the beach at a safe distance behind. Normally, they
would have left Paddy alone to work his so-called magic, but
this time, they were all curious to see the sparks that were
going to fly. They wouldn't miss this for the world.
When they reached the beach, Paddy ushered them away as he
stood anxiously behind Agnes's chair. He was nervous, but he
couldn't understand why. He had come prepared with comebacks
to every possible insult she would throw at him, but also with
plenty of subliminal compliments and lines to use in between.
Yet he still didn't feel as confident as he normally would.
There was something about Agnes that unnerved him-especially
the way she had looked down on him last night as if she was
better than him. Nobody ever looked down on him. The more he
thought about it, the angrier he became, dispelling his
anxiety. He was going to get even with her, the best revenge
being when she fell head over heels for him. He smiled at the
thought, regaining confidence in his power over women and
after taking a deep breath, he made his way over to her.
Agnes was in the process of awkwardly trying to spread the
lotion across her back when she heard a male voice behind her
slyly offer.
"Need help of a real man to reach places?"
Agnes looked up and groaned inwardly when she saw it was Paddy
standing beside her, a goofy grin plastered on his face. So
much for successfully avoiding him. She looked past him and
saw the rest of his brothers sitting a few kilometers away.
She scoffed in response, rolling her eyes at his pathetic
offer.
"Well, well. If it isn't Mr. Arrogance."
Bowing dramatically, he said:
"At your service."
"You're blocking my sun."
Paddy clicked his tongue in disapproval.
"Who are you kidding? You won't get a tan with that skin
of yours! You're just wasting your time."
"And if you're still waiting for an apology, you're
wasting your time" she shot back, upset with his comment
about her un-tan-able skin.
"Actually, I came to apologize to you."
"Don't do me any favors." She frowned as she
returned her lotion to her bag, put on her sunglasses and
settled back on the chair.
"I was just a little high strung from jet lag."
"Poor baby. And I'm supposed to say 'that's okay. You're
a hot shot celebrity so I'll fall at your feet and feel
honored you're gracing me with an insincere apology'?"
"I'm being sincere" he said innocently.
"It sure looks it."
Paddy began to lose patience, quickly forgetting about his
mission to make love and not war. "Are you always this
unpleasant?" he shot back, his eyes darkening.
"Only to those I don't like."
"But you don't even know me."
Agnes smiled sweetly.
"Exactly. And I intend to keep it that way."
This would have been where Paddy would normally draw the line
and walk away. But $500 was at stake, he reminded himself. As
well as his pride. Clenching his teeth, he spread his towel
out beside her on the sand and sat down.
"So, where's your little boyfriend?"
"Working."
"Ahh, that's right. He's here on business you said. What
kind?"
"I didn't invite you to join me" she said without
disguising the annoyance in her voice.
"I invited myself" Paddy countered back smiling
pleasantly. "So what exactly does he do?"
'This was like a bad nightmare' Agnes thought to herself.
'What would it take to make him go away?'
"Nothing that your miniscule IQ could comprehend"
she answered condescendingly. She thought she saw him flinch
at the insult but he quickly played it off well, so she wasn't
so sure.
"You're not making this easy."
"Making what easy?"
"I see you here alone and I'm trying to establish some
sort of friendship, but you stubbornly refuse to cut me even
the smallest amount of slack!"
"If I wanted a friend, I'd make one. But it certainly
wouldn't be with someone like you."
"What's wrong with me?" Paddy pretended to pout.
"You really want me to answer that?" Agnes let out a
sadistic little laugh.
Paddy was appalled at the venom in her voice. This girl was
totally cruel and heartless. He gathered up his things,
frowned at her and then stormed off.
"I thought not!!!!" she called airily after him.
He stopped in his tracks, turning back to retaliate, but then
remembering Jimmy's warning, he shook his head in disgust and
walked off, muttering to himself.
"Strike one" Maite commented victoriously when Paddy
re-joined the group.
"Ready to give up yet?" Johnny asked hopefully.
"No" Paddy grumbled as he laid his towel out again.
He pulled off his shirt, fished his shades out of his bag and
sat down.
"I take it you didn't fare too well, Pad?" Jimmy
asked amused.
Paddy snuck a look over at Agnes, still fuming inside. There
she gracefully sat with an air of superiority even as she read
her book. What right did she have to be so unpleasant to him?
Maybe he had been a little out of line last night, but he had
apologized. Besides, everyone makes mistakes and loses their
temper once in a while. Nobody's perfect. Yet Agnes seemed to
think she was.
"It's only the first day, Jimmy. She needs to warm up to
me."
"After that pleasant greeting you graced her with last
night, I wouldn't be surprised if she never warms up."
Maite laughed.
"Sure you don't want to forfeit?" Johnny asked him
again.
"I wouldn't mind taking over for you" Joey said his
eyes never leaving Agnes. "She's gorgeous."
"No she's not" Paddy scoffed. "She's too skinny
and has no chest."
"Not everyone has the money to pay for double silicone
portion" Maite reminded him, hiding a smile.
"I think she's perfect the way she is" Jimmy
commented casually, looking up from his magazine.
"I thought you weren't getting involved" Johnny said
amused.
"I'm not. I'm just voicing my opinion of a beautiful
girl."
"Well, I don't think she's much to look at" Paddy
huffed.
"That's cause she's the first girl not to drool all over
you" Maite pointed out. "You're just bitter about
the lack of attention."
"That has nothing to do with it! She's mean and cold and
unattractive with that permanent frown on her face!"
"You're saying if you didn't know a thing about her and
met her at a club, you wouldn't look twice?" Joey asked.
"Nope."
"Liar" Johnny accused between a muffled cough.
"Shut up." Paddy glared at his brothers. Then he
grabbed his volleyball out of his bag and stood up. "Come
on. Get off your fat butts and let's practice."
"I think I'll invite Agnes to play with us" Jimmy
announced, putting down his magazine.
"No fair!" Maite protested. "You'd be helping
Paddy then! You can't get involved, remember?"
"Nothing can help Paddy. He's dug himself in too deep to
ever get out this time. He's got no chance with this girl.
She's way out of his league." Jimmy laughed.
"Says who?" Paddy asked, suddenly offended.
"Says me! Why don't you quit the stupid bet so you can
enjoy the rest of the vacation?"
Paddy shook his head adamantly as he began to throw up the
ball alone.
"I said I'm not quitting."
Johnny stood up and joined Paddy.
"I think Jimmy just wants to make a move on her
instead."
Jimmy smiled mischievously but didn't respond as he got up and
jogged over to Agnes. She was so engrossed in her book that
she didn't even notice him until he spoke.
"Hi. It's Agnes right?"
She looked up, regarding him behind her sunglasses.
"Hi" she replied coolly, wishing they would all just
get the hint and leave her alone.
Jimmy noticed she seemed annoyed at the disturbance, but he
didn't let it scare him away. She was probably still
recovering from her earlier encounter with Paddy. Yet that
didn't mean she had to take it out on him.
"We're gonna play a little volleyball" he said,
smiling warmly as he pointed over at the guys. "We
thought you might like to join us."
"I don't play volleyball."
"We'd be happy to teach you."
"No thanks."
"OK… maybe some other time then."
"Maybe." She turned her attention back to her book,
hoping he'd finally get the hint and go away.
"Well… okay. See ya later then" he said
awkwardly as he turned to leave. As he walked back to join the
guys, he waited for a goodbye in return but heard nothing.
Maybe Paddy had a point. Who was this girl?
"Strike one for you, too?" Maite asked in amusement
when he saw the puzzled look on Jimmy's face.
"No" Jimmy shot back quickly. "She just doesn't
play volleyball, that's all."
"Did she blow you off?" Paddy asked.
"Not… really. She wasn't very pleasant but she
wasn't a total bitch either. I think she's only like that to
you."
"I don't know what I did to deserve that attitude from
her."
Johnny slapped him on the back.
"You were just being your good old arrogant self. But
like I've said before, it won't impress every girl. Some will
really be turned off by it."
"No. Only straight-laced goody two shoes will be
offended, and that's exactly what she is."
Maite stole the ball from him and passed it to Joey.
"Well, whatever she is, you're gonna have to think of
some creative way to lighten her up then. And you better do it
fast. The clock is ticking little buddy."
"Which means you'll be gray before you know it"
Paddy joked back, receiving a pass from Joey.
Later on that evening, Agnes found herself enjoying a cozy
candlelit dinner with Scott. He had returned from work on time
and not only did he surprise her with dinner, but he promised
dancing later on that night as well.
"This is so nice" Agnes commented casually, gazing
across the table at him, where he sat studying the menu.
"Yeah. It's a cute little restaurant, isn't it?" he
replied, looking around.
"I meant this is nice… us spending time
together" she corrected herself, smiling sheepishly.
Scott reached over and patted her hand encouragingly.
"Of course it is. That's why I invited you to come on
this vacation, because I knew no matter how busy I was, I'd
still be able to make time for you."
Agnes relaxed at his words. It was times like these when she
was able to dispel all her doubts and fears because of simple,
sweet nothings that he said. She laced her fingers through
his, smiling warmly.
"So how was your day?"
Scott shook his head.
"Don't wanna bore you with all the details. How about
you? What did you do today?"
"Not much. Went to the beach for a while."
"Meet anybody?"
"Just our neighbors" she said, rolling her eyes.
"You mean the celebrity jerks next door?"
"Yep. But they seem okay now, except for one." She
frowned at her quickness to defend them, but knew Paddy was
the only one she had a right to be angry with. The rest of
them had been surprisingly polite… and even friendly.
After dismissing Jimmy's invitation to volleyball, she had
immediately felt guilty about being so cold. She had actually
considered joining them, but didn't want to give Paddy any
satisfaction. She knew if she gave him a finger, he'd surely
take a hand.
"Oh no. You're not reverting into a lovesick teenybopper
who's gonna start to swoon at the sight of them now, are
you?" Scott teased.
"Hardly" Agnes retorted, knowing that was exactly
what Paddy had expected her to do and why he was so angry and
insulted that she had not.
The waiter brought their dinner and they dropped the subject.
For the rest of the meal, they reminisced about their years in
college and their time spent together as a couple.
After dinner, they asked the waiter for his opinion on popular
clubs in the area and he informed them of a place downtown
called The Allusion. They arrived after a short taxi ride and
had to wait on line for over a half hour.
"I feel like we're back in Bonn" Agnes commented to
Scott as she leaned against him on line. "Clubs and
lines. You'll never find one without the other."
Scott chuckled in amusement as he kissed her cheek.
"Guess you don't like waiting, huh?"
"Nope."
"Now you know how I feel."
Agnes turned in surprise to see him throw her a knowing look,
but then he smiled reassuringly when he saw a frown appear on
her face.
"It was a joke, silly" he murmured, pulling her
close. "Only a joke."
"I know." Agnes sighed in resignation.
She let Scott kiss her and then turned around leaning her head
against his chest again. Closing her eyes, she began to wonder
if she should start reconsidering her decision. Three years in
a relationship with someone was a long time. Maybe Scott had
every right to feel frustrated. Maybe sometimes he even
worried that he was the problem. Agnes knew it was time to
take that major step in their relationship, yet she still
didn't feel 100% convinced.
"Come on. We're in." Scott jerked her back to
reality as he grabbed her hand and led her inside.
Agnes was not a stranger to the club scene and she enjoyed the
weightless oblivion that dancing could provide. The music
pumped through her veins as she weaved her way amidst the
flashing strobe lights through the crowd behind Scott. He
skillfully shoved his way through, making room on an otherwise
jammed-packed dance floor and then pulled Agnes close again as
they began to dance. Agnes wasted no time losing herself in
the music as she and Scott swayed together synchronously, body
to body. For such a straight-laced guy as he was, he sure knew
how to dance.
An indefinite amount of time had passed when Agnes began to
feel light-headed.
"Let's take a break" she yelled over the music so
Scott could hear her.
He nodded in agreement and wiped his brow, leading Agnes over
to a couch on the side of the room.
"I'll go get us a drink" he told her and then
disappeared into the crowd.
He reappeared two minutes later and handed her a beer.
"Thanks." Agnes gulped it greedily, the cold
beverage refreshing her parched mouth.
"Whoa, easy there!" Scott laughed. "Sip it slow
or you'll get drunk real fast."
"I don't get drunk" Agnes bragged. "I know how
to hold my alcohol."
"Yeah, the whole half a beer I've ever seen you drink. I
don't think you've ever had more than that."
"I think you're right." Agnes smiled as she took
another sip, more slowly this time.
Scott admired her with adoring eyes.
"Did I tell you look incredibly sexy this evening?"
Agnes blushed as she looked down at her dress and
self-consciously tugged at it, trying to pull it over her
knees.
"It's a little too short, huh?" she teased.
"Not at all" he murmured in her ear, leaning over to
kiss her softly. "The sexier, the better." His lips
were warm and tasted so sweet. His kisses continued until they
became deeper and more demanding. He slid his hands up her
back, around her neck, and finally to her face, lowering her
down backwards onto the couch.
Agnes felt as if she was drowning in the sensation. She didn't
want him to stop, which meant the alcohol had probably already
gone to her head.
She jerked him back up, trying to catch her breath.
Scott became worried when he saw her disturbed expression.
"What's wrong?" he asked, tucking a strand of hair
behind her ear.
"I just feel a little light-headed" she mumbled
clumsily. "I'm gonna take a walk to the bathroom. I'll be
back." She handed him her beer and then hurried off
before he tried to stop her.
She made her way dazedly through the crowd, angry at Scott for
continuing to pressure her at every possible opportunity but
also angry at herself for not giving in to him yet. She was 22
years old yet she was acting like a scared child. When would
she finally grow up and…
"UMPH!"
The collision quickly knocked Agnes back to reality and she
gasped as she felt an icy liquid seep down the front of her
dress.
"Oh geez. I'm sorry" she heard a male voice
apologize. "I wasn't…" His voice trailed off
with recognition.
She looked up and squinted through the flashing lights to see
none other than Paddy Kelly standing before her, an empty
liquor glass in his hand. She glowered at him and watched as
his eyes made a long, slow appraisal of her body.
'Alright Joey. Maybe I lied. Maybe if I did meet her in a club
and didn't know a thing about her… maybe I would look
twice after all…' he thought.
"Did I do that?" he smirked, pointing to the dark
wet stain spreading across the front of her dress.
Agnes swiped his hand away in disgust. Clenching her teeth to
refrain from lashing out at him, she pushed past him and
stormed off to the bathroom.
A little soap and water only made the stain grow, and Agnes
realized her efforts were futile. She sighed in frustration as
she stared back at her sorry reflection in the mirror. Could
this night get any worse? Actually no, it couldn't. Running
into Paddy was definitely the lowest point of all.
She stormed back out and almost knocked into Paddy again
because he was waiting for her right outside the door.
"Tsk. Tsk." He frowned mockingly when he saw her
dress. "I wonder if that will ever wash out."
"If it doesn't, you owe me 60 bucks" she snapped
back, pushing past him.
Paddy persisted, following close behind.
"So, you here alone? Do you wanna dance? Maybe I can make
it up to you in some other way!" he offered suggestively.
The
question was: Do you want Agnes to dance with Paddy?
Answer: 58% for 'Yes' and 42% for 'No'
