CHAPTER 6 - Car crush

Paddy went to a bar later that night after walking around for hours. Now he didn't care whether he died or not now. He had lost the one thing in his life worth fighting for.
"What can I get you?" the person at the bar asked. Paddy looked at the guy and saw the millions of piercings and tattoos.
"A beer please... No make it four."
The man behind the counter went and got him four beers and gave them to him after Paddy paid him. He drank the beers really quickly.
"I better go home now." Paddy stood up and on his way out he bumped into just a few things. He was drunk. He limped to the front door and walked outside, and began to walk down the street toward his house. He bumped into a few walls before he crossed the street. Paddy didn't look to see if any cars or trucks were coming.

A blue jeep was coming straight as Paddy was walking slowly across. The vehicle didn't see him as it was pitch black and it was after ten o'clock. The jeeps speed increased as Paddy walked slower. A few seconds later, the jeep ran right into Paddy causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

The lady in the jeep got out and rushed to Paddy's side.
"Oh no! Help somebody, get an ambulance!" The young woman called loudly.
But no one was around so she left Paddy and went to a pay phone and called an ambulance then went back over to him and felt a pulse.
"Good please try to stay alive. What the heck were you thinking walking in the middle of the street when it's so dark anyways?" She shut up as the ambulance pulled up and Paddy's body was put onto a stretcher. The woman stood there bewildered as of why this man did what he did.

Marie was back at work working hard trying to forget what Paddy had said. Even now when he talked she melted inside, but things weren't the same anymore, her and Paddy were not longer together. She knew she shouldn't be feeling these feelings for him still. She was over him. All she had to do was convince her heart of that.
"Marie!" Marie turned around and saw Angelo standing there rushing towards her.
"What?" Angelo rushed over and put his hand on her shoulder out of breath.
He looked frantic.
"My brother, Paddy… He was hit by a car. Could you please come with me?"
Marie's jaw dropped.
"Hit by a car?" She could feel fear taking over. "Oh no. He was in my apartment a while ago, where was he? Wait a second, this is just a ploy to get my back. I knew he'd try something like this."
"Marie stop being mad at him for just one second!" Angelo yelled. "He was hit by a car, I swear. I haven't even seen him since he came here to find you."

Marie came with Angelo to the hospital. She stared at the elevator as a man was being carried out on a stretcher. She shrieked when she saw Paddy lying there.
"Paddy!" she yelled. "Paddy, why did you do this?" She stared down at his body. The paramedics left her alone with Paddy, who was still unconscious.

"Marie?" She turned and saw Angelo, Joey, Jimmy, Barby, Patricia and Maite standing outside the door. "Can we come in?" Maite asked sticking his head inside. Marie nodded then the Kellys walked inside and stood beside her.
She was almost at the point of tears but she didn't want them to know that Paddy reached her a little. "What happened?"
"He went to a club" Joey started "And got drunk and was walking across the street, then he got hit."
"Oh my God, I can't believe he got drunk, that's not Paddy!" Marie said softly.
"He's not been the same since he lost you. He doesn't even seem to care about living anymore." Angelo stared at her.

She looked down at Paddy as a tear fell.
"That's not true, Paddy is a fighter. Plus he would want to live for his career, his music. That's what is important to him."
"That's not true" Maite said. "Paddy loves you more than you know. You're everything to him. He would give up everything for you, if you would just forgive him."
"It's not an easy thing to just forgive!" Marie fled from the room in tears. She leaned against the desk as more tears fell.
"Oh Marie!"
She turned and saw Jessica standing there.
"Jess? What are you doing here?"
"I heard about you and Paddy and I was just told what happened to him." Jess walked over and hugged her friend.
"Who told you about me and Paddy?" Marie asked. But she didn't need an answer, she should of known. She looked back at the Kellys behind her.
"We know what he did was wrong..." Angelo said.
Marie glared at Angelo.
"It was more than wrong. I've always been there for Paddy and he betrayed me. It's not the first time. I can't be with him anymore so just drop it! I'll tell him it one more time if he survive the night."
They all looked shocked.
"You don't have any faith in him do you?" Maite said.
"It's not that Maite, it's just that oh I don't know!"
"You're still in love with him." Jess said.
"No I'm not!"
"Yes you are. The moment you met him he's all you have ever talked about and I know you're angry now but you'll come around and trust him again... then you'll forgive him." Jessica looked at her friend.
"Not in this lifetime" Marie muttered quietly. "Listen guys, you can go in the room and stay with Paddy. I have some stuff to do."

Paddy's case was worsening more and more everyday. He was still unconscious and the doctors were about to give up hope but Paddy's family and friend weren't, they believed he would survive. Marie on the other hand didn't know what to think. She wanted him to live for his career and his family. She wanted to be able to tell him just once that she still cared for him as a friend. She didn't feel that what happened to him had made her forgive him, but she still wanted to be a friend to him.
Marie walked into his hospital room after coming back from her lunch. She walked over to the bed and leaned forward. How she wish he would just wake up so everything would be ok for him and his family and friends. She checked his pulse and was relieved when she felt he still had one. She wondered what he would do in her place. She didn't know why she thought that, but she did.

"Marie?"
She turned around and saw the Kellys standing there.
"Hey guys. You can come in."
"How is he?" Patricia asked. They walked in and stood in front of her.
"Sorry no change." Marie looked down then back up.
"He won't die Marie" Angelo said putting a hand on her shoulder. "He's too strong."
"I hope you're right" she said softly not really believing it.
She watched as the Kellys said 'hello' to Paddy and talked to him for a while about different stuff. She said 'goodbye' to them as they walked out of the room. Then they were gone and again she was alone with Paddy's lifeless body.

The next few days, Marie worked harder trying to save Paddy's life. She even convinced the doctors to give Paddy a little more time before they pulled the plug. They all knew she and Paddy had been really close so they decided to go with what she wanted.
She hadn't really slept since the day Paddy was brought into the hospital but she just told herself it was because she cared for him. She also gave up her job in the store to be with him everyday. She hoped that if he ever awoke, they could call a truce and just be friends.
Marie was up bright and early and into the hospital the next day. It was now over two weeks since Paddy was brought in. She put on a special coat and immediately headed into his room. She saw his face was paler than the day before and she started to panic. She sat on a nearby chair and sank down crying in her hands. She couldn't admit to herself that she still loved him. Even though she knew she was lying. No one came in those few hours that she just sat there and cried.

"I don't love him, I just care about him" she said out loud then looking over at Paddy. "I don't love you!" She sank down again and cried more then walked over to his bed. "Ok I admit it, I love you! I need you Paddy, don't die on me!" She looked up at the ceiling. "I forgive him, just let him live!" She looked back at Paddy and took her hand and brushed his cheeks. "I love you, Paddy."
She heard claps. Marie turned around and saw the Kellys standing there. She smiled a little, feeling a little better getting that out. She realized for the second time that she loved Paddy.

Marie quickly ran into the hospital and quickly got onto the elevator and pressed for the third floor. When the elevator stopped, she quickly ran out and ran to Paddy's room. She shrieked when she saw the look on his family's faces.
"No not yet!" She screamed beginning to cry heavily.
Joey came out of Paddy's room and put his arms around her and hugged her tight. "He's not gone yet, Marie."
"What are they doing in there then?" a shaken Marie asked frantically.
"They are still trying to get his heart beat back." Joey continued to hold her then whispered into her ear.
"Don't you know what means?" Marie cried more.
When Joey shook his head, Marie cried out.
"He's gonna die! If they can't get his heart beat back, he's dead." Joey started to cry.
"You're scared too, aren't you?" Marie said looking at the tears in his eyes.
He nodded, and didn't say anything more, he just held her.

It was almost an hour until the doctors came out from Paddy's room. Marie immediately looked up with tears still in her eyes.
"Well?" She wiped her eyes and waited for the response.
"He's stable" one of the doctors replied writing something down on a pad. "I'm glad someone was able to get a hold of you. It's weird that something bad happens to Paddy whenever you leave." He patted her on the back then walked off with the other doctors.
"I'm not leaving till he's ok!" Marie looked at Joey.
"You always had a big effect on him." Joey nodded then smiled.
She smiled for the first time since she stepped off the elevator.
"Thanks Joey." She wiped her eyes.
"Why don't you go in and see him?" Joey smiled at her.

She didn't have to think twice on that one. Marie walked to the doorway of Paddy's room then turned around. She walked inside. She smiled at the sight of Paddy. He didn't look as well as he did before, but that was before his heart has stopped for a while.
Marie pulled up a chair and just watched him. She felt like his guardian angel, like somehow she could save his life. Now more than ever, Marie was determined. She remembered how it felt when she heard what Joey said when he called her to come. It had scared her more than anything ever had. She knew from that moment on, she couldn't lose Paddy.
"Oh Paddy" she whispered softly looking at him "Don't ever leave me again."
When he didn't answer or move, Marie sighed. "Oh Paddy, please just do this one thing for me. Stay alive. I need you in my life. I never knew before what love was until you came into my life. It's true love Paddy, I found it!"
Marie looked away from Paddy, and looked around the room.
"I wish God could hear me." She looked up and smiled. "Just one small miracle, that's all we need."
Before she knew it, the other Kellys had entered the room, looking at her strange.
"What?" she asked.
Maite, Joey, Angelo, Patricia, Jimmy, Barby, Joey, Kathy and Papa Dan were glaring at Paddy. Marie turned around and her smiled couldn't have gotten any bigger.
"Oh my God, he's awake!" She walked over to the bed and held Paddy's hand. "Paddy, can you hear me?"

No one could believe it. Paddy's face had gained a little color, but he was not conscious. But hopes were rising that he may survive, even by some of the doctors believed he might make it. Marie herself didn't want to have high hopes, but she didn't want to have no hope at all. She was still trying to get over learning her feelings for Paddy. She couldn't believe how she felt. It made her more scared if she lost Paddy. She couldn't wait to tell Paddy she loved him. She just hoped she got the chance to.
She watched as his family sat by his bedside. She could see how truly loved Paddy was. And not only his friends and family, but the fans too. Millions of letters and gifts have been pouring in for him.

She looked over and caught her friend looking at her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked leading Jessica out into the waiting area.
"I came to see you. I'm trying to figure out why you look so happy though" Jessica said confused.
The last time they had seen each other, Marie was all upset and she was saying she and Paddy were over. Everything now had changed.
"Is Paddy doing any better?" Jess asked.
Marie nodded with a smile.
"A little better. He's gained some color. His family is in with him right now. You can stick around for a while and see him if you'd like."
"You're happy, what's going on?" Jess smiled and grabbed her friend's arm.

Marie just smiled but cried a little too. She was still so afraid she would lose Paddy, and now if that happened, she didn't know if she'd ever be ok.
"Can't I just be happy cause a friend of mine might live?" she smiled.
"But this is Paddy we're talking about" Jess pointed out. "He cheated on you, you hate him. Or at least that's what you've been telling everyone."
"I know, I did hate him, actually I despised him, but I have no hate for him anymore."
"What's changed?" Jessica asked.
"Let's just say I finally realized what has been in front of me all along" Marie said with a little smile. "But if he doesn't survive..."
"Don't even think about that Marie" Jess interrupted. "He'll be fine."
"Don't say that please, not until I know for sure he'll be ok and won't die." Marie looked over and saw Paddy's family coming out. "I'm just glad that he has a chance."
"Me too." Jess smiled.
"I can't believe I thought I didn't still love him" Marie sighed. She caught her friend's look. "Is it so hard to believe that I actually came to my senses?"
"Kinda. I mean you were really angry, but it was understandable." Jess laughed.
"You bet it was."
Jess laughed again then hugged Marie.
"Take care."
She watched as her friend disappeared in the elevator. She turned around and sighed. She walked into Paddy's room. She smiled when she saw the color of his face.
"You're looking better. Just hold on for as long as you can, I love you." Marie touched his cheek with her hand then ran her hand through his hair. "You know I do, don't you?" She checked his pulse and it was getting stronger.

A few more days passed and Paddy still wasn't conscious but he was getting more color. The doctors had come to the conclusion Paddy was in a coma and that hopefully he would come out of it soon. Marie prayed they were right. Not many knew of her changed feelings about Paddy except for the Kellys and Jess. She was going to keep it that way until she told Paddy.
"Doc?"
"Yes Marie?" The doctor behind Marie turned around.
"Are you positive about this coma thing? I just want to know the truth."
He looked at her then paused for a moment, then smiled.
"I'm sure. He's gotten a lot of color back. We believe that he'll be back with us very soon. Why don't you go home and rest?"
"I can't" Marie said. "I won't leave his side. You know I refuse to." She started to walk away when she heard the doctors voice again.
"I hope he knows how lucky he is to have you."
Marie turned around and smiled.
"He will trust me." She smiled again then walked off feeling better about the day. She couldn't wait to see Paddy when he woke. She would probably hug him so tight, then she would never let go again.

Marie sat by Paddy's bedside for the next few days. People kept telling her to go home and get some rest but she couldn't. The last tests that were done on Paddy weren't very good. It showed an infection in parts of his body and Marie was scared to death.

A few days later while Marie was sitting by Paddy's side, one of the other doctors walked in.
"He looks a little better" he said smiling putting a hand on her shoulder. "Good job."
"It was Paddy not me" Marie said checking his pulse. "His fever has tied down a little." A day earlier Paddy had begun a fever but now he looked a little better. "His head isn't as hot and his temperature has gone down a lot."
"You've taken great care of him" the doctor said. "Why don't you just go home and rest for a while?"
"I won't leave his side. Please don't make me." Marie shook her head.
"I won't but you need to rest" he said.
"Tomorrow maybe." Marie glanced over at Paddy again then looked back at the doctor. "Can you watch him for a while? I need to go do something."
"Sure." He nodded.
She smiled then walked out and headed down the elevator.
She came back into the room a few hours later with some balloons and the bag of gifts and letters that were from his fans.
"What's that stuff?" the doctor asked.
Marie smiled.
"Stuff to brighten the room a bit." She pulled out a bouquet of white roses and put them on the table. "Gifts from his fans and some 'get well soon' balloons."
"He looks very loved." He smiled.
"He is." She smiled back.
She placed the balloons above the bed and placed the bags of stuff from the fans on the chair.
"I hope he gets to see these."
"Remember he's just in a temporary coma. He'll be fine." He gave her a hug then left the room to check on other patients.
"Oh Paddy I hope everyone is right and that you'll be ok" Marie said sitting on the chair looking at Paddy. "I love you." She smiled and took her hand and brushed his cheeks. "You've got more color today."
When he didn't respond, she just smiled. "One day I'll hear you say that you love me, then I can say it back to you." She look at her finger and saw the engaged ring that Paddy had put in her finger. "We still have so many things to do, remember? You promised to marry me and take me to Paris! You have to keep your promises!"

The next morning around 9 a.m. Marie was still asleep leaning on the back of the chair. She had finally gotten some sleep, but it still wasn't enough.
One of the nurses came in and tapped Marie's shoulder.
"Huh? Oh hey, what time is it?" She sat up and stretched.
The nurse looked at her watch.
"Almost 9:30am. Doctor Smith said to go home and have a rest. He'll call you if anything changes."
"I don't want to go home. Doesn't anyone get that?" Marie sighed.
"Just for a few hours. You're not needed right now. You will be informed immediately if anything changes. Look at you, you've got bags under your eyes." The nurse helped her up.
"I guess you're right. I am kinda tired." Marie went over and grabbed her coat then looked back at the nurse. "Immediately if something happens, I want to be notified." After the nurse nodded, Marie left the room and headed home.

She had been sleeping peacefully for a few hours in her bed when her cell suddenly rang. Marie sat up slowly then picked it up still yawning.
"Hello?"
"Marie we need you down here!"
"Joey? What's wrong? Oh God is it Paddy?" Marie asked scared.
"Yes. He's collapsed. They say he's gone deeper into the coma. They're using those pumping thingies right now!" Joey said sounding frightened.
As Joey was saying that, Marie had put her coat on and grabbed her keys and was already on her way to the hospital.

"Paddy, can you hear me?" Marie repeated for the 12th time. Paddy's pale face just stared at her.
Then his mouth opened.
"Marie?" he said groggily.
"Paddy, do you know where you are?" She looked at him and smiled.
He shook his head, then nodded. "On tour... No wait you're here... And in a killer uniform."
Marie laughed when she saw his eyes almost pop out.
"Paddy, I'm serious. Do you know where you are?" When he shook his head, she replied "You're in the hospital. You were hit by a car. You've been in a coma for almost 3 weeks."
"What?" Paddy asked confused. "How did that happen?"
"You got drunk" Jimmy cut in, coming into the room. "Man, it's so good to see you're ok."
Paddy shook his head in amazement. "Drunk? Me? Are you crazy?"
"I know, it was a shock for us too." Angelo chimed in and laughed.
"Guys! I've never been happier to see you" Paddy said smiling brightly.
"Are you alright?" Maite asked. "You're never excited to see us."
"I feel like I've been in a cage for months" Paddy replied, then looked at Marie.
"You've been in a coma" Patricia corrected "How do you feel?"
"Better" he replied smiling. "But I'm kinda tired."
The doctor walked up and shone the flashlight in his eyes to check his vision.
"Let's all leave so Mr. Kelly can rest."
"Could you get that thing away from me" Paddy complained.

Marie laughed then looked at the doctor to explain.
"He hates too much light and he hates things stuck in his face."
The doctor smiled saying he understood then turned the light off.
"Ok everyone out of here so he can rest." Everyone followed the doctor out except Marie. "Marie, that means you too."
Paddy and Marie couldn't hear him, they were lost looking into each others eyes. "Marie!"
She turned around and saw the doctor gesturing for her to come. "Can she stay with me?" Paddy asked giving the doctor puppy dog eyes.
"I don't think..." the doctor began then fell for Paddy's pout. "Fine, but only for a while. You need your rest, Mr. Kelly."

After the doctor left, Paddy laughed.
"What's so funny?" Marie asked rolling her eyes at him.
"He fell for it just like you always did!" he said bringing her face closer to his.
Paddy gently pressed his lips to hers in a gentle, but sweet kiss.
"I don't think you're ready to be doing that again!" Marie said.
"Oh sorry I forgot, you hate me" he frowned moving away.
"No, Paddy, I don't hate you. I love you."
"What?" he asked confused. "But I cheated on you remember..."
"I know" she smiled "But I love you and that will never change." She kissed him softly then looked at him. "You seem so surprised."
"I am" Paddy said honestly. "I mean I betrayed you. I betrayed our love."
"Yes you did, but I love you and I want to give us another chance" Marie replied pressing her head to the side of his cheek.
"I don't know what to say. I dreamed of you saying that since the moment you walked away from me in that hotel." He smiled more than he had ever before.
"Can we not talk about that night ever again?" she asked putting her arms around his neck.
He smiled.
"My pleasure." He put his arms around her waist and hugged her tightly. "I should rest now."
"Sure, I'll check on you later." Marie got up and started to walk to the door.

She laughed then walked out. That was the first time she had felt so good in the last three weeks.
Paddy slept peacefully for the next few days. He couldn't remember a time he was ever so tired. Marie kept watch to just make sure he didn't slip into a coma again.

The next morning as Marie walked onto the third floor, she saw Paddy walking about with his iv. She smiled at the sight to herself so he wouldn't see.
"Morning ma'am" he said walking slowly over to her.
"Morning Mr. Kelly" She laughed and looked at his pajama's.
"My sisters made a trip to the clothing store" Paddy explained catching her look.
"Aw I see. Having fun on you're stroll?"
"Yeah but it would be more fun if my you would walk with me maybe down to the cafeteria for something to eat." He smiled.

She moved closer to him.
"I suppose I could." Marie linked her arm in Paddy's, then they walked along the halls heading to the cafeteria.
"I'm just so happy that you're ok" Marie said tearfully as she took a sip of her tea.
"So am I" Paddy said smiling, placing his hand on top of hers. "Was there ever any doubt?"
"Yes" she said sadly. "You scared the heck out of me. I was never so scared in my life."
"I'm sorry" he said looking into her eyes. "I didn't mean to scare you like I can tell I did."
"It's not your fault, Paddy. I mean we should have worked things out. But second of all, you shouldn't have gotten drunk."
"The things you make me do." He laughed.
"I'm sorry for being cold that day. I was just so upset about what happened."
Paddy wiped the tears that were in her eyes.
"I know and you had every right to be. What I did was the biggest mistake of my life. I'm so sorry for what I put you through these past few months."
"Past few months?" she asked confused. Paddy had only cheated on her about a month ago.
He saw the confusion in her expressions.
"I was in a tour and then in USA, remember? I wanted to be with you so badly, but they wouldn't let me."
"I can understand why, I mean it's your job" Marie said taking a bite of her doughnut. "Sometimes, I guess, I wish you didn't have to work so much."
"I know! Me too" he sighed. "But I always carry your love with me, so I know everything will be ok."
She smiled.
"I carry yours with me too. Even when you were in the coma, I felt you in my soul." Marie glanced at her watch then got up. "I'm sorry, I have something to do."
"Will you be dropping in to see me today?" Paddy asked getting up slowly and grabbing his iv.
"Of course" she smiled throwing her and Paddy's garbage away. "Sometime around noon probably."

"My family will be dropping in today too. They really want to thank you for saving my life. I don't know how I can ever repay you."
"It's not mw who saved your life, but you can get better for me." Marie touched his shoulder.
"I will. I love you, Marie." He smiled.
"I love you too" she said giving him a quick hug. "With all my heart."
Paddy crossed his heart with his hands.
"With all my heart." He smiled then gave her a kiss on the lips. "I'll see you later then."
Marie watched as Paddy walked out of the cafeteria, heading back to his room.

"What was so urgent that you had to haul us from the mall?" Jimmy asked as the her siblings walked into Paddy's hospital room. "I almost got that girl to talk to me."
"No you didn't, she didn't like you" Joey said laughing. "She was after me."
"No she was after me" Jimmy shouted. "And you are not allowed to look at other girls!"
"Guys!" Paddy said.
They all turned to face Paddy, looking impatient.
"What?" Jimmy asked.
"I called you guys here cause I need a favour."
"And what would that be?" Angelo asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"It's nothing that you'll have trouble with. I need you guys to go down to the jewellry store." Paddy laughed.
"Why the jewelry store?" Jimmy asked.
"To pick up my order."
"You're order of what?" Maite asked.
"Jewelry duh" Angelo laughed.
"Guys, I'm being serious here! I need you to down there and pick up my order, that's it" Paddy said getting a little annoyed.
"Well if we do this, don't you think we should know what we're picking up?" Jimmy said.
"Well" Paddy paused looking away then coughed out "A necklace"
All of the four guys' mouths dropped.
"What did you say?"
"Angelo I just said it, don't you listen?" Paddy said looking back at the guys.
"A necklace? For??" Angelo repeated. "Uhmm, I know! Marie??"
"Yes" Paddy said smiling.
"But you guys broke up" Joey said confused. Neither Marie or Paddy had told anyone that they had gotten back together.
"Well we kinda... um got back together." Paddy smiled.
"Really? That's great" Patricia said. "I never thought she'd take you back."
"I know, I didn't either." Paddy glared at her.
"I knew" Angelo said. "She took care of you so well and wouldn't leave your side."
"I just don't know how but she forgave me. I'm just glad we're together again. I missed her like crazy." Paddy smiled.
"Come on let's go to the jewelry store" Maite said walking towards the door. The others followed her then left the room.

A few hours later...

The Kellys came back with a bag from the jewelry store. Angelo handed it to Paddy. He took it out and looked inside the blue velvet box and smiled, then put it in the drawer.
"Thanks guys."
"So do you know when you're getting out of here?" Jimmy asked.
"Yeah it better be soon cause in a few months we have to be back to USA" Joey complained.
"We do?" Paddy gave a sigh. "You can't be serious."
The other nodded.
"Damn" Paddy sighed again. "I better get out of here soon then cause I want to give her it before we have to go."
"Why don't you just ask Marie or one of the other doctors?" Angelo suggested.
"Ask me about what?"
They all turned to the door. Marie stood there.
"Do you know when Paddy is getting out of here?" Jimmy asked after a few moments silence.
"Actually that's why I'm came in here."
"Well?" Jimmy asked "When?"
"I just asked a doctor… Tomorrow!!!"
"Really? Great, I just want to go home." Paddy smiled brighter.
"Well you can tomorrow. Have a nice evening."
"Marie?" Paddy said.
"Yeah?" She turned around to look at Paddy.
"Can you pick me up tomorrow? There's something I'd like to talk to you about."
"Sure! I'll be here around 10, is that ok?"
"That's fine" he replied. "But could I possibly have a kiss goodnight?" He pouted.
Marie walked over to his bed and gave him a nice and short kiss on the lips. "Goodnight Paddy." She walked to the door and soon was gone. All was seen by the Kellys was Paddy smiling of contentment.

Paddy was released just before 10 a.m. so he was ready by the time Marie got there. He had everything planned for the day. Paddy smiled and he packed the last of his things in the duffel bag. He turned around and saw Marie standing there.
"Ready to go?" she asked walking in.
"More than you know" he smiled.
Marie looked him in the eyes then took a step and put her arms around his neck and hugged him close.
"I'm so glad you're ok." She whispered.
He swore she was ready to cry, so he let go.
"Come on let's go. I want to go to the park."
"What?"
"If that's ok."
"Yeah sure. I just wondered why." She shook it off then grabbed his bags. They walked out and into the elevator.

Later that day...
"Paddy, is there something special happening in this park tonight that you know of?" Marie asked looking around at all the lit candles through the whole park.
He took her hand led her over to a bench. "Not for the park, but for us."
"What do you mean?" she asked more confused then she was when Paddy asked to go to the park.
"I wanted to do something for you. To thank you for everything. Saving my life, and taking me back after what I did." He smiled.
"You didn't have to do that. I love you Paddy, and that's all that mattered to me."
Paddy reached in his pocket and took out the velvet box and opened it.
"I had this whole speech planned out but then I figured I'd just say what's in my heart at this moment, so that's what I'm going to." Paddy took the necklace out and held it in his hand then closed his hand. "Ever since I met you, I knew you were the only one for me. I didn't realize how much I really needed you until I lost you. I promised myself that if I ever got another chance, I would do everything possible to make you happy because I never want to lose you. I can't lose you. You are like my air, I can't live without you. I love you with all my heart and soul. Thank you for loving me!"
When she saw him cry too, she reached out and put her arms around his neck and hugged him tight then she whispered "Yes, I do love you with all my heart!" That was the happiest moment of Paddy's life. He wiped his eyes after pulling away and then placed the necklace on her neck then kissed her lips. Marie took his hand and helped him up after standing up herself. They both just stared at each other for a few moments, then they both leaned in and shared a passionate kiss.

"I can't believe this." Paddy smiled when he pulled away. "Especially since I have to go back to USA in a few days."
"That doesn't matter anymore. Another thing I learned besides I love you when you were in that coma was that we'll always be in each others hearts and that can't change. No matter where you are, I will still be with you."
"I just love you so much sometimes I don't know how I got so lucky to have you in my life." He smiled then wiped the tears out of his eyes again.
She kissed him again to shut him up. When she pulled away she smiled.
"Sometimes love is just so un-expectant, you don't know how much you really love them. Until now."
"So since you aren't mad at me anymore, how about we go for a walk along the lake?" he proposed.
"I love your ideas." she took his hand and they walked away.
"You are an amazing woman Marie!"
"I know, I know…"
