CHAPTER 10 - The truth must be told

A few days later, Jess was awakened by the phone ringing.
Jess walked into Marie's room. The bed was empty.
"Marie?" She called.
"Kitchen" Marie answered from downstairs.
Jess walked downstairs.
"Hey" she said smiling.
"Hey" Marie answered. "Who was that on the phone?"
"Shane" she answered. "I am two hours late for work, so I have to jet."
"Okay" she said. "Till what time?"
"I don't know" she said. "Probably the three shift."
"That's perfect" Marie said.
"Why?" asked Jess.
"Because the Kellys have an interview on Viva today. I thought we could watch together." Marie answered, taking a bite of a nectarine.
"Sure" Jess answered. "What time?"
"Four" she said. "Try to be home for that, okay?"
"Okay" she said. "I better go shower and stuff, I'll see you later."
Marie nodded.
"Leave your debit, because we need groceries."
"Okay" she said, and walked out of the room.

"Hey, and welcome to Viva Interactiv. Today, we are with The Kelly Family! Listen to those girls screaming!" Dave, the reporter said.
"Turn it up!" Jess said.
Marie grabbed the remote and turned up the volume.
"So, first we are going to take some questions from the fans" Dave said.
The camera zoomed in on Joey, and Jess smiled.
"First question" Dave said. He held the microphone out to a little girl. "What's your name?"
"Kristin" she answered. "Hi, Kellys" She giggled.
"Hey Kristin" Paddy answered. "What's your question?"
"Okay, my question is for Paddy" she smiled. "What's your favourite song on your albums?"
"I like Brother Brother" Paddy said.
"Thanks" she said, sitting back down.
"Next question" Dave said, holding it out to an overweight middle aged woman. "Who's this for?"
"Joey" she said. "Joey, will you sign my underwear?" She pulled down her pants, revealing hot pink underwear, and a lot of cellulite.
"Um..." Joey hesitated and looked away. "Dave? Help..."
"Whoa! That's sick" Dave yelled. "Somebody get her out of here!" Two body guards dragged the woman away, kicking and screaming.
"Next one is via email" Dave said. "Dear the Kellys and Dave. Hi, I really think you are a hot guy Dave. My question is are any of you married? If not, do you have girlfriends? If not, do you have a crush on anyone? Signed, the biggest Kelly fan, Jessica, age twelve."
"Well" Jimmy said. "Right now, I'm not married, and I am not going to be any time soon. I don't have a girlfriend, and I don't have a crush on anyone."
"That's because you are a cheating ass!" Jess muttered.
Paddy smiled.
"Marriage hopefully is in my close future, but I do have a girlfriend. I love her so much. I love you Marie" he said into the camera, flashing a smile.
Marie smiled and looked at Jess.
"Isn't he the best?"
"For you. I have someone else in mind." Jess smiled.
"Who?" Marie looked at her friend quizzically.
"Secret" she answered, smiling.
"Jess!" Marie said. "Tell me!"
"Nope" she smiled.

The camera focused on Patricia next. "What about you?" Dave asked.
"I have a husband, Dennis. He is the best man in the world, and we have a little boy called Mark" Patricia said. He smiled. "I like it that way."
"And what about you guys?" Dave asked Joey and Angelo.
Marie swallowed hard, wondering what Angelo would say.
"Well, Dave" Angelo smiled. "To tell you the truth, I am totally in love with a girl right now. I won't reveal her name, to anyone, but she is very special to me."
"Come on" Dave said. "Tell us."
"Yeah, Angelo" Paddy said. "Tell us."
"You mean, the guys don't even know?" Dave asked.
"Some do, some don't" Angelo said.
Dave shrugged and looked at Joey.
"What about you?"
"I have my own family right now. Tanya and Luke, I love you." Joey smiled. "That's all I am going to say."
"So, Angelo, Joey... pretty secretive, eh?" Dave asked.
Joey nodded.
"Yeah" Angelo said.
Dave turned to the camera.
"While I talk with the Kelly Family, take a look at this." He pointed to the camera and 'Winnie the Pooh' came on.

Marie sighed and shook her head.
"What's wrong?" Jess asked.
She turned to Jess.
"Okay, you have to swear you won't say a word."
"I promise" she said. "What's going on?"
Marie took a deep breath.
"You know that girl that Angelo is talking about?"
Jess raised an eyebrow.
"Go on."
"It's me" she whispered.
"What?!" Jess jumped out of her seat. "How come you know that? I don't understand... Marie!"
"I've been cheating on Paddy!" Marie said.
"With Angelo?" Jess shrieked. "I can't believe you!"
"Neither can I" Marie admitted. "He always says how much he likes me, but the truth is, I think..."
"What?" Jess demanded.
"I think that I am using him. Paddy never treats me the way Angelo does." Marie blushed. "I mean, Angelo is so sweet, he always tells me how much he cares, and he's less predictable than Paddy."
"How long has this been going on?" Jess asked.
"For awhile" Marie said. "And when I dropped them off at the bus stop? Angelo ran back, and kissed me... That was when I realized I didn't like him, I just liked everything else. He's a great friend, but that's where it ends."
"You can't stay like this" Jess told her. "Cheating on Paddy for a guy you don't even like. In the end, you are going to lose both of them, and feel really guilty. Stop it while you can Marie" she warned.
"I know" Marie said. "You're right. I will do it tonight, when Angelo calls me, I will end it with him. No... never mind, Jess... I would rather do it in person, in front of them together. Next time they are down, okay?"
"Okay" Jess agreed. "Since you told me, I will tell you my secret."
"What is it?" Marie asked.
"After Jimmy and I broke up, Joey seemed to really be there for me, and now I am seeing him in a totally different way" Jess smiled. "I never knew if he felt the same way."
"But his family. Tanya and Luke!"
"I know, but I can't order my heart. I'm in love with him. Don't tell anyone!"
"Of course I won't say anything," Marie promised.

The phone rang later that night.
"Hello?" Marie answered.
"Marie" a male voice said. "Hey."
"Hey" she smiled. "How are you? I heard what you said about me on Viva... that was really sweet."
"Thanks" he said. Voices came from the background. "Shit, sorry, Jimmy is calling me. I have to go. I will talk to you later, okay?"
"Okay" she said. "I love you, Paddy."
"I love you, Marie!" Paddy answered, hanging up the phone with a soft click.

The next morning Jess was getting ready to go to work when the phone rang.
"Hello?" she answered it.
"Hey" Joey's warm voice filled the other end of the line.
"Joey! How are you?" she asked.
"Great" he said. "I was wondering something... did you watch us on Viva yesterday?"
"Yeah" she said. "You looked good. All of you did."
"Except for Jimmy?" Joey laughed. "Was that coming?"
"You know me too well." Jess grinned.
"Yeah" Joey said.
"But you guys were really good, I watched the whole thing with Marie" Jess said.
"Did you see the beginning?" Joey asked.
"Joey, I know you are getting at something" Jess teased. "Just say it."
"I have no idea what you are talking about" Joey lied.
"Joey!" Jess said. "Come on."
"Fine" he said. "You got me." He took a deep breath. "There's something I wanted to tell you for awhile."
"This anticipation is killing me, Joey" Jess said. "Just say it."
"Okay" he said. "Erhm.."
"Come on, Joey" Jess urged. "Just tell me." She heard nothing but silence on the line for the next few seconds. "Joey! Tell me! This anticipation is killing me."
"Fine" he took a deep breath. "I like you!"
Jess smiled, pleased that her suspicion was right.
"Joey" she began.
"I know you don't feel the same way and I know it's wrong, but…" Joey said, cutting her off. "I really do understand. But it was so hard not to tell you, because I just.."
"Joey!" Jess exclaimed. "Shh!"
"Okay, but…" Joey began.
"But nothing, Joey. I've been trying to tell you. I feel the same way. I like you too." Jess finally said. There was silence on the other end of the line. "Joey?"
"I-I'm here" he said. "Are you joking around, Jess? Because I'm not and…"
"Joey!" Jess said. "Stop it! I really do like you."
"You do?" Joey asked.
"Yeah" Jess said. "I do."
"Wow, really Jess? I mean, I can't believe this!" Joey said.
Jess could tell he was smiling. "I wanted to tell you, but I didn't know if you felt the same way."
"I do" he said. "Jess, I have liked you for so long."
"Really?" She smiled. "Um, does Jimmy know?"
"No" he said.
"Okay" she said. "My day suddenly is much better."
"So is mine" Joey said. "But, I have to go."
"Oh" Jess said, her smile fading.
"But" Joey said. "I will call you later, and I wanted to ask you something. In a couple of weeks we have a concert not too far from you... do you think you could come?"
"Sure" Jess said. "I mean, if I am not working, and if Marie wants to."
"That would be great!" Joey said. "I really hope you can come..."
"Me too." Jess said.
"But I better go!" Joey said. "I'll call you later."
"Okay" she said. "Bye."
"Bye!" Joey answered.
She hung up the phone and smiled.
"Marie!" she called.
Marie walked into the room.
"Yeah?"
"That was Joey! He just told me he has feelings for me! Isn't that great?" Jess grinned.
"Yeah!" Marie ran over and hugged Jess.
"Did you tell him how you feel?"
"Yes, I did!" Jess said. "Oh, this is so great!"
"Congratulations!" Marie smiled.
"Thanks!" Jess said. "And he wanted to know if we wanted to go to their concert in a couple weeks."
"Sure, I guess."
"Okay, I don't think I am working, so we can drive down there that day or whatever" Jess said. "I'll tell Joey later that we are going to come."
"But Jess" Marie stayed hesitant. "That means I have to tell Angelo and Paddy... and I don't think I am ready to yet."
"It's not for a couple weeks" Jess reminded Marie.
"I know, but I'm already nervous" Marie said.
"Don't worry" Jess said. "But you know what? I have to go to work... I'll be home at nine tonight. If you want, come pick me up and we can go dancing."
"No" Marie shook her head. "I don't want to go dancing. Tomorrow morning do you want to go shopping for new outfits to wear to the concert? I want to look good for Paddy."
Jess laughed.
"To look good for him before you break the news that you cheated? Great idea!"
"Thanks" Marie jokingly gave her a dirty look.
"No problem" Jess said, picking up her keys. "See you tonight."
"Bye" Marie said.

"Marie, get up! I want to shop!" Jess pushed on Marie's arm.
"Ow!" Marie exclaimed as she rolled out of bed and hit the floor. "What's the deal?"
"The deal is I want to shop! Get up and shower!" Jess laughed. "Lazy!"
"I am not lazy" Marie protested. She got up and walked towards the bathroom. "I'm just... lazy."
Jess laughed and went downstairs.

"Okay" Marie said, walking into the room. "Ready."
"Finally!" Jess said. "Let's go."
They walked outside to Jess's car and drove off to the mall.

"Jessie! That looks fantastic!" Marie exclaimed. "Pink is your colour."
Jess made a face.
"Pink? This is the first pink shirt I will ever buy" she admitted. She looked in the mirror again and examined the baby pink fitted three-quarter length sleeve shirt.
"No, really, it looks great" Marie persisted. "Joey will think so, too..."
"Well, in that case" Jess laughed. "No, I don't know."
"It will look so nice with your indigo jeans. Please buy it and wear it to the concert," Marie said. "I'll even buy it for you."
"No, that's okay" Jess said. "Fine, I'll take your word for it and buy it." She grinned. "I guess it does look nice."
"It does!" Marie insisted. "Buy it."
"Okay" Jess said, going back into the change-room. Seconds later, she exited holding the pink shirt on the hanger.
"Are you going to get those pants you tried on?"
"Yeah" she answered. "I'll wear them with that white shirt I have. You know, the one with the v-neck?"
"Oh that will look good" Jess smiled. "Good choice. And I get to borrow those pants." She loved the black fitted silk flares that Marie was about to buy.
"Fine" she said. "Let's go."

Marie turned the car into the driveway.
"Oh, shit, Marie" Jess frowned. "We forgot to get some food for dinner. We have absolutely no food in the house."
"Okay" Marie said, backing out of the driveway "Let's go."
"Wait" Jess said. Marie pulled the car back in and Jess got out.
"I want to check if we have mail. I want to see if Joey wrote me any."
"Okay" Marie said, waiting for Jess to come back. She got back in the car.
"Heat bill, junk mail, and something for you" Jess sighed.
"Really?" Marie said. She took the envelope. "I have no idea whose writing this is." Suddenly a thought occurred to her.
"It better not be Jean." She ripped it open and read.

Dear Marie,
Hey. I decided to write instead of calling, because the guys have been around me all the time and I can't just call you when they are around, you know why. Anyway, I miss you, and I just wanted to tell you that. I love you so much, Marie. And the age gap doesn't matter at all. Joey said something about you girls coming to the concert. He must have called you or something, right? Oh, wait, him and Jess are friends now.
Well, Marie, I hope to see you then. I hope you come. And I hope you still feel the same way. I love you.
Angelo

"Oh, no" Marie groaned and handing the letter to Jess. "Read this."
Jess read it and her eyes grew wide.
"Wow. Angelo has it bad."
"I know" Marie said. "It used to get me so happy. Now I don't want him to 'love me'. It was a fling."
"Well" Jess said. "You have to tell Paddy and Angelo after the concert. Invite them over that night or something. You have to tell them."
"I will" Marie promised.

"Hello?" Paddy said, answering the phone.
"Paddy!" Marie exclaimed. "How are you?"
"Good" he said. "What about you?"
"Great, now that I am talking to you" Marie said.
"I miss you" Paddy said. "I really do."
"I miss you, too!" she said. "Can you give Joey a message?"
"Sure."
"Can you tell him that Jess and I are coming to the Cologne concert?" Marie said.
"You are?" Paddy said. "That's great. It's in the afternoon, so do you want to do something that night?"
"Um, yeah" she said. "Actually, I need to talk to you, but I can't do it over the phone."
"Is something wrong?" Paddy asked immediately.
"Not really!" Marie lied. "I just need to talk to you really badly."
"Okay!" Paddy said, hesitating. "Are you sure nothing is wrong?"
"Yeah!" she lied again. "Listen, you know, that whatever happens between us, ever, I'll always love you, okay?"
"I love you, too, Marie!" Paddy said "But I don't understand."
"Paddy, no. Listen, I will always love you. No matter what happens. Ever. I am in love with you now, and I love you, and I always will!" Marie said, starting to panic.
"Marie, tell me what's wrong!" Paddy said. "I don't understand why you are doing this. Please."
"Paddy!" Marie felt tears well up in her eyes. "I have to go now. But I love you, and I always will. Even if something horrible comes between us."
"Are you okay?" Paddy asked, concerned.
"Yes!" Marie exclaimed. "I have to go."
"I love you!" Paddy said.
"I love you, too." Marie said. She heard Paddy hang up the phone, and she laid back in bed, starting to cry.

Jess walked into Marie's room.
"Marie! What are you doing? I was calling you for dinner for the last ten minutes."
Marie looked up.
"Sorry" she said.
"Oh, no, have you been crying?" Jessica asked.
"Yeah" she said. "I am making myself sick, worrying about what Paddy is going to say."
She quickly filled in Jess about her conversation with Paddy.
"Oh, Marie, I feel so bad for you!" Jess said. "But, I did make pizza... it might cheer you up."
"Thanks" Marie said.
They walked to the kitchen.

"Marie, you can't go on, moping around like this" Jess said to Marie, a week after her conversation with Paddy.
"Jess, you don't understand. Ever since I have talked to Paddy, Angelo has called me about seven times. I had to tell him I was busy and everything. Paddy's called me, and I do the exact same thing. Over and over, I love you Paddy. This is retarded, Jess. You don't get it. It's so hard for me... and the concert isn't for another week." Marie held back tears.
"I'm sorry, it's just…" the phone rang cutting off Jess. "Hello?"
"Hey, is Marie there?"
"Who's speaking?" Jess asked.
"Angelo, Jess, you know it's me, can I talk to her?" Angelo asked.
"Sure," Jess said, handing Marie the phone. "It's Angelo!" she whispered.
"Hey, Angelo!" Marie said into the phone.
"Hey" he said. "I really miss you. How are you? You've been really busy all week, I hardly talked to you."
"I know!" she said, trying to make her voice sound regrettable. "But Jess and I were just about to go out for dinner. Can I call you later? Or wait, maybe tomorrow. I'm really busy... I don't know." She tried to think up another excuse. "Oh, and when you come visit after the concert, I need to talk you. It's important."
"Sure!" he said. "But Marie, I'll call you. Somehow you never end up calling me back."
"Okay" she said. "But I'm really busy, you might not catch me."
"Well, I hope I do" he lowered his voice. "I love you."
"Bye Angelo" she said, hanging up the phone. She turned to Jess. "I can't live like this anymore!"
"Don't worry!" Jess smiled. "It's almost over."
"Paddy is going to hate me!" Marie moaned. She put her face in her hands. "Oh, what have I gotten myself into?"
" What have you gotten yourself into? Teenage stuff! Don't worry!" She laughed. "Jimmy and Joey could both get charged because I am a minor. Does that make you feel better?"
Marie smiled.
"No. Then we both would be in the shitter."
"You're right" Jess said. "Well, don't worry. When two people are meant to be together, they will be. I think that you and Paddy are meant to be. I mean, you guys did get back together. Don't worry, okay?"
"Thanks, Jess, but I am going to worry no matter what." Marie said. "Maybe I'll just stay in bed for the next week."
"I don't think so" Jess said, pulling on Marie's arm. "I'll call to my boss, ask her if I don't have to work this week, and then we can keep your mind occupied with other stuff. No talking to Paddy, or Angelo all week. And I won't talk to Joey, because that way it is fair, okay?"
"Fine!" Marie said reluctantly. "What do you want to do?"
"First, I'll call my boss then we will plan our week, okay?" Jess suggested.
"Sure!" Marie sighed. "Just I want to call Paddy and tell him I won't be able to talk to him this week."
"Okay!" Jess said.
She walked into the kitchen and Marie heard her use the phone. When she came back, she smiled.
"It's all set. Now you call Paddy, and let me know when you are done."
"Thanks" Marie said, as Jess left the room. She picked up the phone and dialed.
"Hello?" Angelo answered the phone.
"Um, hey, is Paddy there?" Marie asked, her voice trembling.
"Marie, hey!" he said. "Paddy's not here right now, he went to the store with Jimmy."
"Oh!" Marie said disappointed. "Well, can you tell him I called?"
"Hold on!" Angelo said. She heard muffled voices. "Sorry!" Angelo muttered to someone who was with him
"Hello?" said a new voice.
"Paddy?" Marie asked.
"Yeah, hey!" he said. "What did Angelo just tell you."
"Angelo said that you went to the store with Jimmy." Marie told him.
"He did?" Paddy said surprised. "Well, I didn't go. Neither did Jimmy. Why would he say that?"
"I don't know" Marie lied. "Listen, I just called to tell you two things."
"Sure!" Paddy said. "What?"
"Okay, one, I am going to be really busy all week, I don't think we will be able to talk. So after the concert on Saturday, I will come backstage, and then you guys come home with us, okay?" Marie said.
"Sounds good" Paddy said. "What was the other thing?"
"I love you" Marie said. "Never forget that."
"I love you, too, Marie" Paddy said. "Never forget THAT."
"I won't!" Marie said. Jess walked in the room, and made a motion for Marie to hurry up. "Well, I better go. Jess wants me off. I love you."
"I love you" Paddy said. "Bye."
"Bye" Marie said, hanging up the phone.

Paddy sat beside the phone, and looked out the window. Thoughts of Marie filled his mind. Why is she acting like this? Why does she keep on saying 'I love you'. I love her... but something is wrong and she won't tell me.

"Okay, I'm done" Marie told Jess.
"Great" Jess smiled. "Let's plan our week."
"I hope this works!" Marie sighed.
"It will," Jess said. "This week will be over before you know it."
"Oh, that's reassuring." Marie laughed.

"So let me get this straight!" Paddy said. "You're cheating on me with my brother?"
"I'm sorry, Paddy" Marie said, tears flowing down her cheeks. "I love you."
"I loved you, Marie!" Paddy sneered. "That's over now."
"You're such a bitch" Angelo said "Leading me on like that."
"Please, I never meant to hurt anyone" Marie said. "It's just..."
"Just what?" Angelo asked. "It's just I'm a whore?"
"Angelo!" Paddy said. "She's not a whore. More like a slut."
"Please" Marie begged. "Stop doing this to me."
"You did it to yourself!" Paddy said. "You brought it all on yourself."
"You guys!" Marie's voice was becoming shrill. "Please, give me a chance to explain."
"Okay!" Angelo said. "I'll explain for you. Let's see... you told me you liked me, while you were going out with Paddy... you cheated on Paddy... what else is there to say, Marie?"
"I'm sorry" Marie apologized again. "I am really sorry."
"Are you really?" Paddy laughed.
"Yes" Marie said, through tears. "I am."
"Fine" Angelo said. "Prove it."
"How?" Marie said. "How can I prove it?"
"Kiss me" Paddy said.
"Kiss me" Angelo said after.
"I can't kiss you both at the same time!" Marie said, frustrated.
"She's right" Paddy said to Angelo. He turned back to Marie. "Fine, kiss me first."
Marie took a deep breath and kissed Paddy. "There."
"Good, good" he said. "Kiss Angelo."
Marie kissed Angelo.
"There, are you happy? Are we all friends again?"
"Yeah, right!" Angelo said. "It just shows how skanky you are for kissing us both."
"But you asked" Marie said. "You wanted me to."
"Marie, Marie, Marie" Paddy said. "Figure it out."
"Figure what out? Was it a trap?" She asked.
Angelo and Paddy both looked at each other and laughed.
"Of course" they said in unison.
"Oh, God, make it stop, MAKE IT STOP!" Marie was shaking. "This has to be a dream."
"It's no dream" Paddy said.
"Then why are you doing this to me?" Marie asked.
"Marie, we have a surprise for you" Paddy said, ignoring her question.
"What is it?" Marie asked, still crying.
"Look behind door number one!" Angelo said. Suddenly the room turned into a studio, and Angelo opened up a bright pink door with a large white number one.
Marie gasped. "Jean?" she stammered.
"Right… Marie Reno" Jean said, stepping out of the door way.
"There's more" Paddy said.
"More?" Marie asked. "I can't handle more."
"Too bad" Paddy said, sarcastically. "Angelo, show her what's behind door number two."
"Thanks, Paddy" he said in an announcer's voice. "Here he is." He opened to door.
"Oh, no" Marie said, staring at Kevin, her first love from France.
"It's me" Kevin said, walking closer.
"Stop!" Marie shouted. Kevin stopped walking.
"There's a door number three" Paddy reminded the others. "There are always three doors." He nodded at Angelo and Angelo swung open the door. It was empty.
"Empty?" Angelo asked. "Paddy... it's empty."
"Why is it empty?" Paddy asked. "We lost our door number three?"
"I guess so" Angelo shrugged.
"Wait!" Jean walked over to the guys. "I have to admit something. I ate the person who was in door number three. Sorry."
"That's okay, man!" Paddy said. "It happens."
"Speaking of eating..." Angelo looked over at Marie. "I'm a little hungry."
"Come to think of it" Paddy said. "I'm starving."
"I could go for dessert" Jean said.
"You know what I'm in the mood for?" Kevin asked.
"What?" asked Jean.
"Fresh, ground..." he looked over at Marie and smiled mischievously. "... Marie."
"Marie?" Marie cried. "That's me!"
"That's right" Paddy said. "Your grand prize is... us eating you."
The four guys walked closer and closer. Marie turned and tried to run.
"My feet! They are stuck in the ground!" Marie said.
Paddy shrugged and kept walking. "So?"
"So?! SO?! I should be able to run away" Marie protested.
The guys reached her.
"Should we let her go?" Angelo asked.
"Yes!" Marie said. "Please!"
"Nah…" Jean said, grabbing her arm. He closed his teeth around her arm.

"Aughhhhhhhhhhh!" Marie screamed at the top of her lungs.
Jess ran into Marie's room.
"Are you okay?" She asked. Marie kept screaming. Jess started shaking her, and finally Marie stopped.
"Are you okay?" Jess repeated.
Marie looked around the room and glanced down at her arm.
"This is so embarrassing."
"Are you okay?" Jess asked again.
"Yeah" Marie said. "I was... having a nightmare." She smiled.
"It's early... like nine or nine thirty" Jess said. "Maybe we should stay up."
"Yeah!" Marie said.
"What was the dream about?" Jess asked.
"Oh, it was awful" Marie shuddered and looked at her arm again. She quickly filled in Jess about the dream.
"A dream of cannibalism? Oh, great!" Jess said. "Look, I know you are really worried about talking to them, but it's all going to be over tonight. And I am pretty positive they won't try to eat you."
"Thanks, but I am still worried." Marie smiled.
"Do you want to get dressed, go out for breakfast, then head to Koln Arena? The concert is at two…" Jess said.
"Sounds good" Marie said, rolling out of bed. "Well, good enough."

"I am so nervous!" Marie said, looking out the window at the houses going by. "Are we almost there?"
"Yeah" Jess said. "We will be there in like, three minutes."
"Good" Marie said. "I have to get this over with."
"We're almost there" Jess reminded her, as she turned a corner. "There it is."
Marie looked at the building, then at Jess. "I'm so nervous."
"I know" Jess said. "I'm getting nervous for you. But I am so excited to see Joey."
"Watch it around Jimmy though" Marie warned.
"I know" Jess said. "Just worry about your own things. You have enough to think about."
"I know that" Marie said. She sighed, and Jess parked the car.

"This is great!" Jess shouted over the music.
Marie looked at her.
"What?" She pointed to her ears, indicating that she can't hear her.
"I said, this is great!" Jess shouted louder.
Marie nodded.
"I'm still nervous" she shouted
"Don't worry" Jess yelled back. "Doesn't Joey look great?"
"Yeah, so does Paddy" Marie smiled.
"And I love you, I want you…" Paddy sang. They started to harmonize and Marie smiled.
"I love this part" Jess sighed.
"Me, too!" Marie said.
Angelo walked up to the front of the stage and smiled down at Marie. "I wanna talk to you, I wanna be with you… oh oh oh, don't say good bye..."
Marie looked at Jess.
"He was saying that to me... when is he going to stop?"
Jess shook her head.
"Just enjoy the show" she yelled.

"You guys put on a great show" Marie said, when they all walked into the house later that evening.
"Thanks!" Paddy said, leaning over and kissing her on the cheek.
"Um, Joey, Jimmy, Patricia, Maite, Jess... I need to talk to Paddy and Angelo" Marie said, quietly.
"Joey, let's go up in my room, we can talk!" Jessa said. "We have a lot to talk about."
Joey smiled.
"Sure." They walked upstairs.
And the rest went to shopping around.

"Marie, why are you being so secretive?" Paddy asked. "Are you sure nothing is wrong?"
"Come into the living room" Marie said, ignoring his question.
Angelo and Paddy followed Marie into the living room.
"What's going on?" Angelo asked.
Marie took a deep breath.
"Sit down." she instructed.
The guys sat down, and both looked really concerned.
"Are you sure there isn't anything wrong, Marie?" Paddy asked again. "Did I do something?"
She couldn't hold it in any longer. Tears began to stream down her face.

Paddy sat beside Marie. "It's okay, Marie" he said. "Just tell us."
Minutes later, Marie stopped crying. She looked up at Paddy.
"I'm sorry" she whispered.
"Why?" Paddy asked. "You didn't do anything."
Marie reached a tissue and wiped her eyes, and took a few deep breaths.
"Okay. I'm ready to tell you guys what I wanted to say."
She moved away from Paddy on the couch.
"Okay, Paddy, you know I love you very much, right?"
"Yeah!" he said hesitantly.
Marie saw Angelo grimace as she said that.
"Well, Paddy... I did something awful!" Marie felt tears well in her eyes again. She instructed herself not to cry.
"Why is Angelo here?" Paddy asked.
"Because it has to do with me and Angelo and you!" Marie said.
A feeling of dread came over Paddy.
"What did you do?" He felt his stomach drop.
"I cheated on you." she whispered.
"Pardon?" Paddy said. "I can't hear you." His smile turned into a frown.
"Marie, just tell him." Angelo said. "Just do it. I've been trying to keep quiet as you tried to tell him. I don't even know why you are."
"Angelo, please!" she said.
"Why do I have to be in here?" Angelo asked.
"I want you to be." she said. "I have to tell you something too."
"This feels like freaking Jerry Springer" Angelo said.
"Marie, what did you say?" asked Paddy. "I told you I couldn't hear you."
"Damn, Paddy, she cheated on you!" Angelo exclaimed.
"You cheated on me?" Paddy whispered.
Marie looked at her lap. "Yeah."
"I can't believe this." Paddy said, a single tear rolling down her face. "Do you love him? Do you love me?"
"I love you." Marie insisted.
"I can't believe you!" Paddy said.
"I love you!" Marie repeated.
Paddy put his head in his hands and started to cry.
"Paddy, I am so sorry" Marie said.
"How could you do this?" Paddy asked through tears. "Why is Angelo here anyway?"
"I don't know why I did it!" Marie said. "I just wanted something else..."
"I didn't fulfill you enough? I wasn't sweet enough? What, Marie? What did I do?" Paddy stood up. "I'm leaving. Wait, no, I'm not. I'm not leaving till I find out who you cheated on me with."
"Paddy, I really love you." Marie said.
"Stop saying that!" he yelled. "I'm so stupid, sitting here, crying. Who the hell was it?"
"Paddy…" Marie began.
"WHO WAS IT?" Paddy yelled.
"It was Angelo!" Marie said, starting to cry.
Paddy was stunned. "A-Angelo?"
"Yeah" Marie said, ashamed to look at Paddy.
"You cheated on me with my brother? My best friend?" He looked at Angelo. "You got with Marie behind my back? I can't believe you guys."
"I'm really sorry" Marie said, still crying.
Angelo sighed loudly.
"Why am I here?"
"Because you're a back stabbing asshole" Paddy said, glaring at Angelo.
"Sorry, Paddy" Angelo said. "I am. But I liked her too. In fact, I loved her too."
"Did you tell him you loved him?" Paddy said. "Did you?!"
"No" Marie said. "I swear, I only love you..."
"Why did you do it then?" Paddy asked.
"Wait" Marie said. She looked at Angelo. "I wanted you here to tell you that... I know I told you I liked you, but I didn't. At all."
"Why did you do it?" Paddy repeated.
"You didn't like me?" Angelo asked.
"I did it because it was sneaky and fun and spontaneous and something that I wouldn't do!" Marie admitted. "I needed a change. I didn't really like you, Angelo."
"You lied?" Angelo asked.
"Yeah!" Marie said. "I'm sorry, I never meant to hurt you. You were a really good friend, but that's it. I'm sorry."
"Whatever!" Angelo said. "I need... time. I'm going for a walk."
"I'm leaving." Paddy said. "Marie, if you really want to talk about this, we can talk some other time but right now, I am just too pissed off." He looked over at the picture of himself and Marie on the table beside the couch. He reached over and looked at it for a few seconds. Paddy lifted it up and smashed it down on the coffee table.
"Paddy!" she said.
"What?" he asked, faking a smile. "I guess it doesn't matter that I broke that. I don't mean anything to you, anyway."
"But you do!" Marie insisted. "I love you."
"Well, maybe, just maybe, you should act like it." Paddy said.
Marie looked into Paddy's eyes and saw the pain that she had caused him. She couldn't believe how insensitive she was... she couldn't believe she had cheated.
After Angelo and Paddy both left the room, Marie laid down on the couch and began to bawl.

Paddy sat at Jess and Marie's kitchen table, his head in his hands. Tears of anger and sadness rolled down his cheeks. He heard someone walk up behind him.
"Who's there?" he asked, without bothering to turn around.
"Me, Paddy, and before you say anything, I just want to apologize." the voice said.
Paddy turned around.
"Angelo, why would you apologizing now? You didn't seem very sorry, when we were in there."
"You want the truth, Paddy?" Angelo said.
"Yeah!" Paddy said, folding his arms across his chest. "The truth."
"Okay, we started becoming friends when you and Marie weren't talking. Then, eventually, I started to like her, more and more. When you guys got back together, I kept on trying harder to get with her instead of you. Finally, I couldn't take it. I wanted to leave. She said no, and I asked her why not. Then she kissed me... I loved her, Paddy. You know what it is like... I can't help it." Angelo said.
"Well, at least you are being honest." Paddy said. "But I'm still pissed off."
"If it makes you feel better, she told me, in front of you that she was using me." Angelo sighed. "The second she said that, all feelings I had for her diminished. Of course, I can't just stop liking her, but I don't have any interest to even be her friend anymore."
"Angelo, I really appreciate this honesty and stuff, but you really betrayed me. It's going to take me awhile to get over it. I still can't believe my girlfriend and my brother... behind my back…" Paddy said. "I mean, that hurts, Angelo. I'm not just going to say, 'okay, you did the right thing.'"
"I know." Angelo said. "And I also know we have a concert in two days. I think we should forget about this for the fans."
"I'll forget about it for the concert and the fans, but not right now." Paddy stood up. "Don't you get it? You were the reason Marie cheated on me, and for no good reason!" He started to walk out of the room. "Sorry Angelo, but I want to be alone."

Marie sat in silence, listening to every word Paddy was saying. Why did I do it? I've ruined everything... tears began to fall down her cheeks again.

Paddy sat on the back porch, on a patio chair. Fresh tears of anger and sadness began to roll down his moist cheeks.
Angelo sighed and sat down at the table where Paddy was sitting. He knew he had ruined things by getting with Marie, but he never thought she would tell. "I've got to talk to her." he said to himself, and he walked into the living room.

Marie looked up when she heard someone walk in.
"Angelo, what are you doing here?" she asked.
"I want to talk to you, Marie." Angelo said.
"Fine!" she said, sitting up and wiping her eyes and cheeks on her sleeve. "Talk."
"How come you pretending to like me?" Angelo asked bluntly.
"I didn't pretend." Marie protested.
"So you did like me?"
"You're my friend, Angelo." Marie said.
"Then why did you kiss me? Why did you keep kissing me? Why did we have this secret relationship?" Angelo asked.
"I told you, I wanted something fun." she said. "Paddy was always so busy... you were always there."
"So, you're telling me, I was convenient?" Angelo asked.
"Angelo, that's not what I mean." Marie said. "It's just, you were such a good friend, and I wanted us to stay friends and…"
"Marie, I loved you!" Angelo exploded. "I loved you! And you just threw it all in my face. That's not being a good friend at all."
"I'm sorry, Angelo." Marie said, again. "I really am. But I did tell you that I loved Paddy. I still love Paddy. Angelo, you are a really good friend, but that's where it ends. I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry, too!" Angelo said. "I'm sorry, we were ever friends." He started to walk out of the room.
Marie ran over and grabbed his arm.
"Angelo, please. I don't want to just stop being friends. What we had was great, but I love Paddy."
"And I love you" he said. "Therefore, it will never work."
"Angelo, come on" she said. "Aren't you going to miss being friends?"
"Marie, remember Jess and Jimmy? See how miserable they are? It's like me and you, and you and Paddy. Paddy and me will eventually have to put our feelings aside. But you and me? Marie, it's like what you said when Paddy dumped you. A broken heart." Angelo shook his head. "Sorry Marie." He walked out of the room.

"Anybody here?" Jimmy called when he walked in the house.
"Hey" Angelo said, walking into the hallway. "I'm here."
"Where is everyone?" Jimmy asked.
Angelo filled them in on the story with Paddy, Marie and himself.
"Shit" Jimmy said. "Where's Paddy?"
"I think in the backyard, and Marie is in the living room." Angelo made a face.
"Where's Joey?" Jimmy asked him.
"I don't know, somewhere here I think." Angelo said.
Jimmy began to walk Marie's room.
"Crap!" he said. "Jimmy, wait!" Angelo ran beside Jimmy. "Why do you want to talk to Joey? He's probably talking to Jess. You don't like her, so why don't you just…"
"Angelo, stop!" Jimmy said. "Don't worry, I just want to ask Joey something about the concert in two days. He told me something about a dance move and I wanted to ask him. If he's talking to Jess, she can wait."
"Fine!" Angelo said.

Jess pushed away for a second.
"Joey!" she whispered.
"What?" he asked, breathless.
"I don't care if Jimmy finds out." she said. "I want us to be together."
"Me, too!" Joey said, kissing her again.

"Joey?" Jimmy said, looking in Marie's room. He wasn't there, so he opened up the door to Jess's room and flicked on the light.
"Oh, my God!" he said, dropping his half-full cup of coffee.
"Jimmy!" Jess said, moving away from Joey. "Um, we were just, um..."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt." Jimmy said, backing away. "I'll get a rag, and clean this up, sorry."
"Don't worry about it." Jess said. "I'll do it later. It will blend in."
Jimmy flicked off the light.
"Get back to what you were doing." He said.
"Wait, Jimmy!" Joey said. "Wait, a second."
Jimmy stopped.
"What?"
"Turn on the light" Joey told him.
"Okay, what?" Jimmy turned on the light.
"Um" Joey began. "I..."
"What? Do you want to know if I care that I just walked in on my brother and my ex girlfriend together on her bed and… and saw you making out with the light off? No! I don't care at all." he forced a smile. "Bye." He turned to leave.
"Jimmy, stop it!" Joey said.
"Stop what?" Jimmy asked.
"Stop faking it!" Jess said.
"Stop faking what?" Jimmy asked innocently.
"Jimmy!" Jess shouted. "STOP IT!"
"Fine" Jimmy said. "I'll stop it, even though I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Yes, you do" Jess said. "You're mad because you saw us together. Well, news flash, Jimmy Kelly, people can have relationships after they break up with someone."
"What, you think I am jealous?" Jimmy asked. "Yeah, right."
"You seem like it" Jess countered.
"Well, 'news flash'," Jimmy mimicked Jess. "Incase you forgot, I dumped your ass."
"Jimmy!" Jess gasped.
"Come on, man, don't be like that." Joey said to Jimmy.
"Be like what?" Jimmy said. "She moved on pretty quick."
"We broke up a very long time ago, Jimmy. About two months." she said.
"Whatever. I'm going out of here!" Jimmy walked away.
Joey turned to Jess.
"I'm sorry, Jess. But Jimmy... he's my brother. I can't lose him. He is my brother." Joey said.
"Oh, but you can lose me?" Jess asked.
"No, Jessa, that's not it" he said. "It's just..."
"Just what?"
"I really like you, I mean, I haven't been tied down with one girl for a period of time, you know what I mean? I'm usually the one that dates around and stuff!" Joey took her hand. "But with you, Jess, I feel as though, I want a relationship. I really want to be with you. I can see why Jimmy would be pissed. I would be. Wouldn't you?"
"I guess." Jess nodded.
"I just don't want to lose important people of my life." Joey said. "Please, let me just make sure it's alright with Jimmy."
Jess smiled.
"Okay." She said. "I understand."
"Thanks" he said, kissing her on the cheek. He looked at the clock on Jess's bedside table. "Oh, crap, we're leaving soon, we have to get back to Koln Arena. I'll call you later tonight or tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay" she said. "I'll stay here, and you talk to Jimmy, then let me know when you are leaving."
"Sure" he said, walking out the door.
